Brian Metherell, vice-president and general manager of Toshiba Telecom, talks about the movement toward business communications in ?the cloud.?
?
Moving applications to the cloud is the biggest trend we are seeing among our SMB channel partners and their customers.? Across industries, the cloud forecast is clear:
- Gartner reports that Software as a Service (SaaS) and cloud-based business application services will see a compound annual growth rate of 19 percent from 2011 to 2016 (Source:? Market Trends: Platform as a Service, Worldwide, 2012?2016, 2H12 Update, October 5, 2012).
- IDC reports that public and private cloud computing will be strong catalysts of server growth through 2015, accounting for an 80 percent increase in server sales revenue and 1.8 million new servers sold (Source:? Worldwide Enterprise Server Cloud Computing 2011?2015 Forecast, June 2011).
- A March 2011 Microsoft survey indicates that 39 percent of SMBs (2?250 employees) will be using one or more cloud services within three years, an increase of 34 percent.
Given the simplicity, flexibility and pay-as-you-go business model of cloud services, we?re not surprised to see strong growth in cloud services for business communications.? In 2011, the market for hosted IP telephony and unified communications grew by 42.5 percent (in terms of users).? According to Infonetics Research from March 2012, the market for hosted VoIP services will double in the next four years.? Frost & Sullivan projects the market to expand from 2.8 million users in 2011 to 15.4 million in 2017, with businesses of up to 50 users representing two-thirds of early adopters.? Larger businesses are gradually migrating remote sites to cloud-based services, some with the intent of migrating the entire organization.
Our dealers tell us they see cloud solutions as a smart way to build their businesses during the still-struggling economy.? For them, it offers a low cost-of-entry with little to no inventory and a strong recurring revenue stream.? Cloud solutions reduce the cost of truck rolls for dealers since they are installing only IP phones and routers, not an entire system.? In addition, Toshiba dealers experience a very easy learning curve, since VIPedge? features and functionality are very similar to our premise-based systems.
For end-user customers, a cloud solution provides the benefits of an advanced IP phone system without requiring them to buy, install and maintain an on-premises PBX.? The service is a monthly expense rather than a capital expenditure, so customers free up their cash or credit for other?capital investments, such as inventory or equipment.? We?re finding that customers in certain vertical markets ? such as professional services, retail, healthcare and education ? are among the biggest adopters of Toshiba?s cloud solution because advanced features such as unified communications are indispensable to them.
Cloud-based service is a good choice for any new or expanding business that has big potential but limited capital (or is short on in-house IT resources) yet needs advanced IP communications.? It is also an excellent option for any organization that prefers to manage communications costs as a predictable monthly operating expense rather than an upfront purchase with annual maintenance contracts.
Any Authorized Toshiba Dealer can do an analysis to determine? the right solution for your company.? The service starts at about a dollar per day per seat/user, making it a particularly attractive choice for the market for which it was designed:? small- to medium-sized businesses with 5 to 500 users.
