We have a lot to be proud of, says Laura Marsh ? Cricket News Update?
England all-rounder Laura Marsh has said that despite failing to clinch their second World T20 title they are proud of their performance in the recently concluded Women?s World T20 Championship in Sri Lanka.
While speaking to media reporters on her return home, the 25-year-old Kent all-rounder said that it was disappointing for them to come back to England without the coveted trophy.
?We're obviously all really disappointed not to be coming home from Sri Lanka with the ICC Women's World Twenty20 trophy, because that was our aim when we came out here to Sri Lanka,? said Marsh while speaking to BBC Sport's Mark Mitchener, on Tuesday.
?We did brilliantly to win all our group stage games and played well in the semi-final, but we just didn't put things together in the final,? she went on to add.
Charlotte Edwards led English women reached the 2012 ICC Women?s World T20 championship final unbeaten, before losing to traditional rivals and the defending champions Australia by just four runs. Chasing a competitive 143 to win, the English women could manage only 138 for 9 in their stipulated 20 overs.
Marsh, however expressed satisfaction over her side?s performance in the marquee tournament saying the whole team tried incredibly hard to reach the tournament finals unbeaten.
?We know we have a lot to be proud of - everyone has contributed and worked incredibly hard to get to the final,? said the right-handed opening batsman, who also bowls right-arm medium pace.
Marsh also thanked the English fans for giving them a warm welcome back home, despite not giving the result everybody wanted.
Asked about her experience of playing the global event in the sub-continent conditions, the England all-rounder said that it had been a fantastic experience and the whole team enjoyed a lot playing in Galle (Group stage fixtures), and then heading to Colombo for the knock out stages.
Replying to a query regarding the playing conditions in Sri Lanka, Marsh said that the wickets at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo were more like the traditional subcontinent pitches they had expected before going into the tournament.
